Mentor registration

We need you!

Are you a faculty, a graduate student, or an undergraduate student who already went through a research experience? You’ve got some bandwidth over the summer and want to do something good? We need experts in pretty much any field where computational modeling and tools can be applied to. Signing up as a mentor is not a commitment yet. We’ll match up students with mentors during the first week of the program. We’ll ask you for a commitment at that point. You can always decline if things have changed or you feel the match is not a good fit.

Are you a faculty?

We’re looking for faculty who have expertise in any area of computational modeling. What’s expected from me?

  • You would mentor one or several (depending on your bandwidth) individuals/teams during the 10 week research experience.
  • You’d check in with the individual(s)/team(s) at least once per week on a live video conference call.
  • You’d provide guidance, materials, literature, etc. to help the the individual(s)/team(s) move in the right direction. We’re thinking this would require 1-2h of your time per week.

Can I propose a specific project? While we want students to find and propose their own research projects, you can submit general project areas that we’ll list on this website so that students have some ideas and guidance on what they could possibly work on. We will attempt to match students who are interested in your area to you. If this interests you, please sign up at https://bit.ly/altREUMentorRegistration.

Are you a graduate student?

We’re looking for graduate students who have expertise in any area of computational modeling. Ideally, you would have some experience with supervising and mentoring undergraduate students.

Are you an undergraduate student with research experience?

We’d like to establish a support network of undergraduate students who already went through an undergraduate research experience in the past. What’s expected from me?

  • You’d be available to share your advice and your own experience with one or several (depending on your bandwidth) individuals/teams during the 10 week research experience.
  • We’re thinking this would require 3-5h of your time over the summer.
