Eligibility

  • You must be 18 or older. We cannot admit minors.
  • You must be an undergraduate student enrolled in an academic institution in your country.
  • You should be able to spend on average at least 28h per week (~4h per day) for the 10 week duration of the altREU program.
  • You should be committed, dedicated, and motivated.
  • Your written and oral English must be solid.
  • You must convince one or two friends to apply with you:
    • You and your friend(s) will be working on a team.
    • Your friend(s) must meet all application criteria and also submit an individual application.
    • Interests and expertise among your team members do not have to align. They can be complementary.

Important deadlines

  • Application deadline: May 5, 2024
  • Acceptance notifications: May 12, 2024
  • Program duration: Jun 10 – Aug 16, 2024 (10 week)

Prepare your application

The altREU is different—and so is the application process. We’re not asking for your resume, your transcripts, and for a bunch of essays. You feel this is too much work or you feel too shy? Step outside of your comfort zone for a few minutes and try it anyway. You may surprise yourself—and us!

  1. The application form will ask you for:
    1. Your name.
    2. Your e-mail address.
    3. Confirm that you are 18 or older.
    4. Your Github (if available).
    5. Your LinkedIn profile or your personal website (if available).
    6. The current school you are enrolled in as undergraduate student.
    7. The name(s) and e-mail address(es) of the friend(s) who will apply with you. 
  2. Prepare a short video or audio clip (100 MB upload limit) that provides answers to the following questions:
    1. To what extent do you personally care about doing well in this program?
    2. What specifically excites you about working on a team with your friend(s)?
    3. How will participating in this program be useful to you in the future? 
    4. Do you foresee any challenges to participating in this program?
    5. Do you already have a project or problem in mind that would benefit society? If so, provide a brief pitch of your vision.
    6. In the near or far future, mankind may build machines that can perceive, feel and act. How should they be treated compared to animals of comparable intelligence? Should we consider the suffering of “feeling” machines?
  3. Note: We want to see your own appearance and hear your own voice. Do not use an AI tools to clone your voice or appearance, or use text to speech tools. Keep things real and raw please.
